Joshua Rivera

A first-generational Catholic immigrant family, I think of the place my heritage has in America. My personal identity of also living a closeted life in a conservative south Texas town has split my worldviews into a vast spectrum. My pieces inherit the idea of taking the duality of meanings from the ethos of myths and scriptures. Our ideas that become extensions of our nature often collide with the ideals of nature. But why is the reason I ask, that developing a better outcome with tools, knowledge, and even compassion and empathy might incite a primal need to keep traditions constant and unchanging. I seek to convey these questions into visual stories hoping to leave the viewer with an understanding that we ourselves are surreal experiences.
