Erika Scheer

Erika M. Scheer, born into an immigrant family 1976 in Chicago Ill. With roots in Mexico and Hungary.  Her family then moved to Naples Florida 1987. At the start of her adolescence she shifted her attention to decorative arts. Wood was in her blood, she came from a third generation woodcarver with experience as a traditional decorative artist.  Apprenticeship came in 1995 under the Master woodcarver George Scheer ( her father). Assisted and solo commissioned by private  homes in Naples Florida. Her largest project was in 2005 a home in Sanibel Island, a one year project with carving expanding from stairwells, mantel, and kitchen furnishings.
Erika then took a sabbatical to raise a family.   She with her family moved to Ohio in 2009, then to Waupun Wisconsin in 2018 where they currently reside.
By 2022 she was ready to embark on her new journey into woodcarving. This time with an eye for her own creations. It’s been her lifelong desire to express and challenge herself in wood. A medium that holds meaning not just by lineage, but by the sacredness. With her, working in wood is like life itself. The wood holds its own personality, its own story and its own dignity. Yet it yields and it embodies the carvers intentions . Every cut reveals a vision or a terrible mistake. That is the adventure she seeks.
In Erika’s current works she explores strengths and vulnerability. The balance of soft lines and hard structures.
